We have criteria for many things. When we are looking for our next boyfriends/girlfriends, there are certain things that need to be checked. Is he/she kind? Is he/she funny? Does he/she like to travel? Before you are actually thinking about your future half’s criteria, finish reading this article first.
The Purpose of a Logo
It is a symbol that your customers use to recognize your brand. It is how you differentiate your brand from others (Only if the design is good enough). I’ve encountered many people who think “my business is selling shoes, I don’t see shoes in the logo you propose” or “my business is selling computer gadgets, I don’t see a computer in the logo you propose”… The logo should identify the business rather than describe it. Can you imagine every business that sells shoes has a pair of shoes in its logo?
What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you see this?
The Principles of Making a Good Logo Check List
1. Is it Appropriate?
Does it fit the brand’s personality? Can you imagine having a logo like this for a law firm or an insurance company?
2. Is it Distinctive?
Does it differentiate itself from others? Can it be described to others? Do you know the logo that has an apple with a bite on it? Do you know the logo with the panda? Do you know the logo with the swoosh? Do you see what I mean?
3. Is it Simple?
Can it be enlarged/reduced and still recognizable? Is it suitable for different kinds of formats? Many logos lose their details when it’s too small, then again, a good logo shouldn’t have too much detail, so it doesn’t get lost.
Last but not least. Please, I beg of you, don’t use shadows in your logos.
